On the back of the Million Bucks, it explains that there is a REAL WAR raging all around us. It is not some fantastic battle of physical powers dreamed up for your entertainment and your dollars. The Battle is happening FOR you and AGAINST you.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12
We’re drawn to fictional contests between good and evil because deep down we want this life to have higher consequences than our daily experience. Life can become dull, and we focus too much on inconsequential things that won’t even matter in the scheme of things.
We crave real meaning in our lives. We are willing to fight for something that’s RIGHT and TRUE. But in our culture, life rarely demands us to be BRAVE. Our culture is full of DIVISION and FAKE RAGE over PETTY things. It celebrates VIOLENCE, and DEATH. We have fallen into a SPIRITUAL SLUMBER, and we no longer STIR UP ourselves to SEE the REAL BATTLE EVERY DAY is between GOOD and EVIL, TRUTH and LIES. It is the battle for our SOUL. For EVERY SOUL.
Our enemy is “more cunning than any other creature” (Genesis 3:1). God Calls him a viper, and a DRAGON:
“So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him…Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Rev 12:9 & 12
Satan foremost is a DECEIVER. He is the FATHER of LIES, and his one aim is to distract us from the REAL battle, and to DESTROY our SOUL. He does anything he can to drag us away from God, and from the GIFT of ETERNAL LIFE:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.“
1 Peter 5:8
God made a perfect paradise, and told Adam and Eve they had charge over the earth, and could enjoy and discover anything they wanted. But He also gave them the FREE WILL to Love Him.
Love isn’t valuable unless it is willingly given.
And so God planted a FREE WILL TREE in the Garden of Eden, and He instructed them:
“You shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Gen 2:17
However, that DRAGON, the Old Serpent, the Devil, DECEIVED EVE, saying:
“You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Gen 3:4 & 5
And from the first lie, we were LOST forever–Separated from GOD because of SIN.
So Satan slithered into the world with enticements, and brought DEATH by sin. Now the whole world is SUBJECT to sin and death, and instead of choosing to listen to God, we allowed Satan to have access to this world. Now we are living with Satan and his demons, who RULE the culture of this world, and have come to destroy our souls. Jesus said:
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have LIFE, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10
And so the WAR is a battle of DECEPTION–those who are deceived will REJECT the gift of God, which is SALVATION and ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus:
“For the wages of sin [is] death, but the gift of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
“Through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”
Romans 5:12
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.”
1Timothy 3:16
Jesus is a man of HISTORY. He really lived, and He was really killed. The religious leaders were jealous, and pushed the Romans to crucify Him. But it was God’s plan from the beginning. He knew that humans would choose to disobey, but that is the risk God took to give us free will.
And so God’s plan was to REDEEM us from DEATH HIMSELF, by paying the DEBT for our sin that we could never fully pay. So GOD became a MAN, JESUS, and suffered and payed the cost for ALL OUR SINS–the sins of the whole world:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
John 3:16-17
Jesus PAID for all of our SINS on the CROSS, and by doing so, He DEFEATED our greatest enemy: DEATH. He DESTROYED the power of SATAN over us, and SET US FREE:
“Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.”
John 12:31
“And you, being dead in your trespasses…, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.“
Colossians 2:13-15
So by FAITH ALONE, anyone can receive forgiveness for their sins, and have eternal life. GOD paid the penalty FOR us. It is a FREE GIFT, but we MUST accept it.
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
“But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
John 3:18-21
If you BELIEVE that Jesus died for your sins, and rose to life again, then pray to Him, and tell Him that you know you have sinned, and that you accept His gift of forgiveness. Tell Him you want to TRUST Him with your LIFE, and ask Him to help you to KNOW Him. Tell Him you want to give your LIFE to Him, and to Follow Him.
If you do that, then the Bible says you HAVE eternal life:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God,not of works, lest anyone should boast.For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has foreordained that we should walk in them.“
Ephesians 2:8-10
God has a good plan for your life. One that uses your talents, and interests for His Kingdom. There is a SPIRITUAL WAR all around us fighting to DESTROY human souls, but God has given those who TRUST in HIM, with the WISDOM and POWER to fight the enemy, both for OURSELVES, and to GUARD over those we LOVE:
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
Luke 10:19-20
If you have accepted Jesus’s payment for your sins, you’ll need to ARM yourself for the Battle. The Bible says that we are Ambassadors for Jesus, and the ENEMY wants to stop us from saving other souls. It is so heroic if someone risked their life to pull someone out of a burning house, or to STAND against an attacker and help them get free. But a GREATER danger is ETERNAL DEATH, and Satan fights for every one.
Let us be EQUALLY DETERMINED to STAND for TRUTH, and GIVE HOPE to the LOST–even those who don’t know it. And so to GET EQUIPPED, be sure to:
READ the Bible. Get yourself a WHOLE Bible in a good translation. New King James Version is good
Start in the New Testament, where Jesus comes to fulfill all the PROMISES in the OLD TESTAMENT
After that, start in the Old Testament, and read the most accurate history of the world even written, and learn about God’s eternal promises
Pray every day. Just talk to God. Ask Him to teach you, to be WITH you, to Guide you with wisdom, and to help you understand the Bible
Find a Christian Church that will teach the Bible. Calvary Chapel affiliates are good.
Pray about sharing your New Faith. Tell someone, so that God is glorified, and so that the people you tell might start thinking about trusting in Jesus also
God said to those who trust in Jesus, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5. There are many promises for those who follow Him, and who do the UNDERCOVER WORK of His SPECIAL OPS Teams, including the ARMOR of GOD:
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. 19… and that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel”
